We Salute the Americans with Disabilities Act!

This week, we mark the 30th birthday of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  This important federal law changed the lives of thousands of Americans with disabilities by ensuring they have equal access to work in a discrimination-free environment.

The ADA stood on the shoulders of the Rehabilitation Act, passed in 1973, which prohibited discrimination and retaliation against federal employees with disabilities.  Today, the Rehabilitation Act continues to protect federal employees while the ADA protects employees of private businesses with more than 15 employees.

Thanks to the ADA, thousands of qualified Americans have access to work with reasonable accommodations and without fear of retaliation.

If you have questions about how the ADA affects your workplace contact us for a free, 30-minute consultation with an employment lawyer.
