Your employer can require you to stay home from work if you are sick. However, there are a lot of options available to individuals who get sick and need support. There are federal and state funds available to sick individuals so that you can stay home until you are healthy, and still get a portion of your pay. (link to a blog post on unemployment funds).
Keep in mind that as the situation continues to evolve, there will be new guidance from the EEOC. Additionally, depending on your state, there may be local laws that provide additional protections for employees.
